ATTITUDE OF STUDENTS AND TEACHERS WITH TEACHING PROFESSION.

ABSTRACT:

Background: Teaching is profession which need optimistic attitude and many qualities from its practitioners. The positive, attitude, helps teacher in friendly environment not only inside but outside the class. Attitude is termed as the condition of readiness having experience and influencing the responses of the persons towards the stimuli. Attitude has three main components which includes cognitive, affective and behavioral acts and act as yardstick of people’s behaviors.

Method: A simple purposive sampling study was conducted with A 100 sample size was used. A validated questionnaire was used to asses’ teacher attitude. No time limit was given to the respondents. The maximum range of scores was from zero to three hundred and sixty with highest scoring indicative of favorable attitude towards teaching profession  results were written as mean and SD with the help of SPSS. 24.00.

Result: Our study revealed that attitudes towards teaching profession are the main factors in teaching efficiency. In many studies it has been found that females possess high degree of attitude when compared with males and teachers who possess positive attitude they encourage their students.

Conclusion: It is important that training is very much important for teaching profession and it has significant role in social maturity, self-concept etc. therefore positive attitude is also very mandatory while choosing teaching profession

INTRODUCTION: Teaching is profession which need optimistic attitude and many qualities from its practitioners. The positive, attitude, helps teacher in friendly environment not only inside but outside the class (1). The measurement and assessment of the level of student’s suitability is determined through teaching practices for the teaching profession (2). Not only inside the class but teacher’s role is also found extension outside the class. The main areas which are the responsibilities of teachers are transaction of curriculum, educational policies and awareness spreading. Right attitude and competencies are the important key factors for this job, in shaping students personalities the attitude, behavior and interest of the teachers are very helpful. (3) Attitude is termed as the condition of readiness having experience and influencing the responses of the persons towards the stimuli. Attitude has three main components which includes cognitive, affective and behavioral acts and act as yardstick of people’s behaviors. (4). Domestic environment. Background, family, educational institutes, beliefs and socioeconomic background. The factors which are very much important which played role in teachers attitude are school infrastructure, school status, social status, safety conditions and professional status (5). The teaching experience is the most important factor in forming attitude for teachers (6). The desire for learning inside the students is very important factors which is directly related with the attitude of teachers. In one study it was found that females have been found with positive attitude towards teaching profession (7). When salaries are not given on time, it is the main reason for teachers having low attitude to this profession (8). When teachers having positive attitudes they help in motivating students and developing critical thinking (9).  The main objective of this study is to determine the attitudes of male and female students and teachers towards teaching profession.

METHODOLOGY:

A simple purposive sampling study was conducted at one of the Medical Institute of Sindh, Pakistan. A 100 sample size was used. A validated questionnaire was used to asses teacher attitude with the option include agree, strongly agree, undecided, disagree and strongly disagree items. No time limit was given to the respondents. The maximum range of scores was from zero to three hundred and sixty with highest scoring indicative of favorable attitude towards teaching profession and results were written as mean and SD with the help of SPSS. 24.00.

The results show no significance between the groups and t-test was used for analysis.

DISCUSSION:

Our study revealed that attitudes towards teaching profession are the main factors in teaching efficiency. In many studies it has been found that females possess high degree of attitude when compared with males and teachers who possess positive attitude they encourage their students. In previous study conducted by Rawat and Sreevastava (1984) they found significant difference between females and male teacher’s attitude toward this profession (10) but Balan (1996) doesn’t found any significance gender difference in attitudes towards teaching (11). Naik and Pathy (1997) also revealed that females have more positive attitude (12).

CONCLUSION:

It is important that training is very much important for teaching profession and it has significant role in social maturity, self-concept etc. therefore positive attitude is also very mandatory while choosing teaching profession.
